The Jimmy thread was in need of some lovin'.....

I don't know about you guys but I can just watch/stare picture of Jimmy Dean all day long and not get tired of it. I don't care how many times I've seen some pictures, I'm still in awe of his gorgeousness and sexiness!

Here is perhaps the most powerful scene of East of Eden and my favorite:

This is the rejection of a father. When you watch this it's important to know that Jimmy improvised the ending....

This scene always gets to me....
This scene gets to me too! Not only was James Dean a fantastic
looking guy, he was a fantastic actor!
I loved him in the movie Giant especially when he first meets
Elizabeth Taylor. It seems like he falls in love at first sight with her.
Rock Hudson and Dean didn't seem to like one another.
Hudson discussed his time with James Dean in an interview and
he politely said nice things about Dean. But I could tell it wasn't
altogether sincere.
Rebel without a cause is great too. I believe we missed some
great acting roles because of that damn accident!

was gay?
If he was in love with Pier Angelli then he probably was bisexual.
Even Rock Hudson had a sexual relationship with his wife.
She wrote about it.
But Rock Hudson had a thing for blond males.
Mark Christian was one of his last male friends.

I think she is supposed to have included his name in a list of gay actors she had known. I don't know where or when she said it.

Another story is that Liz supposedly had a bet with Rock Hudson over which of them would get Dean into bed first, and Liz lost the bet. IF this is true, it must have happened when they first met. By most reports, Rock and Jimmy did not like each other.

My personal feeling is that Dean probably was gay. However, "proof" will never be forthcoming, and even if it were, plenty of people would still not believe it.

As an example, the woman known as Anna Anderson claimed for decades that she really was the Grand Duchess Anastasia, daughter of Czar Nicholas II, and that she had somehow escaped when the rest of her family was massacred in Siberia in 1918. DNA evidence has established beyond a doubt that she was NOT in any way related to the Romanov family. However, SOME people still insist she was Anastasia. It would be the same with J.D.

I agree with you he was either gay or bisexual..
If he was gay, as a female fan it does not bother me,
and does not change how I feel about him, However for some women being gay as appossed to bisexual, is to hard for them to except

I posted something similar to your last thought on how many would deny it regardless of proof. Because I had got into an argument with this one bitch who was in her early 20s and knew for a fact he was straight. And I just asked her and others opinions on it. I didnt say he was or wasnt cause honestly I just dont care. His acting and death transcends his sexuality for me. But this twit went all Satanic on my ass just for asking that question and she writes all of these bizarre postys on his Find a grave board about his sexuality its just really nutts. I wrote her one time asking her when was she going to dig him up and see if she could consumate her imaginary love affair with him. I just dont get it though, someone that is gay is not a tragedy but to some of his more disturbed loyal fans its the most horrible thing to say about the man. His family be damned they weren't around him 24/7 they will never know for sure either so what revelation knowledge does a warped psychotic young 20 something year old that has threatened to kill people who dont agree with her have that no one else has. Some of his fans are just insane im all for loyalty I love my Idols to but not to that point of being so absorbed by a dead persons life that I would write little notes and make proposals of marriage to him or her on ther FAG site. Its nutts and some people have lost there minds. He was gorgeous though lol

While not an avid fan, I must say he was sexy, smart, and very talented. He is just the symbol of the innocent 50s, and his work cannot be denied. His death was so tragic, so young. He would be a living legend by now, had he lived. RIP

From a show I was watching that interviewed Dean's racing friends, they said racers are taught not to hit the brakes but veer away or something. That was their explanation of why there were no skid marks.

I've said it before but I could careless what Jimmy's sexuality was. He was an amazing talent and whether he was gay, straight, bi, the man was gorgeous! There's no denying that. Nobody will ever know for sure if James Dean was gay or bi or straight; only he truly knew. So to get all worked up about something that none of us have knowledge (nor do celebs that say knew him) is insane. That person sounds like she needs help!

I think his sexuality was one of his big inner demons and I've read he was very masochistic.
It always amazes me how modern he looks in photos. Some old stars have this quality. This was his biggest legacy I think, his still photos. Far more than his films. As an actor I find his voice annoying and he was pretty hammy.

Garbo does, as does Louise Brooks and a young Marlon Brando and Jean-Paul Belmondo.

I think so too in regard to his sexuality. I also agree on how modern he looks. It’s like through out the years, he just hasn’t aged and has adapted to the generations through out the years.

I also think his pictures are a huge legacy for Jimmy. I know a lot of folks know who he is because of his pictures. Most of them have never probably seen his movies; it’s that image of his that memorizes a lot of folks. He has a haunting look that fascinates people whether you are female or male or whatever age you are. Then you have the folks who have seen his movies and are amazed by his talents or the idea of what might have been. It’s just amazing that he gained this legendary status only making 3 films and of course the countless of photographs he left behind. It’s unheard of in away. He was really unknown when he died. That has always amazed me.

I wonder how she handles the fact that at times Jimmy Dean wasn't a very nice person-- in fact he was an absolute prick on occasion, and at times was nearly impossible to live/work with.

You make a very good point that his family wasn't with him 24/7. Additionally, they were probably the LAST people in the world he'd have spoken frankly to about his sexuality... we ARE talking about a small, very conservative Indiana town in the early/mid 1950's after all. It was a time when the revelation that you were gay could get you fired from ANY job with absolutely no recourse. Furthermore, he didn't get along with his father, so there wouldn't have been any opening up to him.

Three seconds

Modern reconstructions of the accident, plus testimony of officers immediately on the scene indicate that Jimmy wasn't doing the 80+ mph that many people have assumed.

However, it's sobering to consider the fact that he most likely would have been unharmed if he had been a mere three seconds farther along. At 60 mph he'd have traveled 264 feet in three seconds, and that would have put him past the intersection and out of danger.

Also, his car was a deathtrap on wheels... no top, no seat belts, mid-engine (leaving nothing but empty space in the front end of the car), an aluminum body that crumpled like foil, and the fact that it only weighed 1400 lbs.

I've read that the car also handled somewhat differently than his previous one, and his experience driving it was limited. It's possible that this was a contributing factor in his failure to evade the accident.

I've read that both the low trajectory of Dean's porsche coupled with the fact that the Sun was casting a light in such a way that it reflected and 'bounced' off the road's surface meant that Dean's view of what was ahead was partially obscured. In other words, the road in front of him was very bright and he just coudn't see the car ahead properly until it was too late.

But according to guy who was riding with Dean -- Dean said "that guy has to stop" or something to that effect. But I guess he still could have said that if he didn't see the car until it was too late like you posted, Shat Mirror. Who knows.

I am a huge James Dead fan! First saw him when I was 16 in East Of Eden and he was such a great actor. I am not bothered if he was Gay, Bi or straight. I dont see why people need to know the truth, it was his life not ours. I dont give a flying rats toe who he slept with....the man was a talent and should always be remembered that way!

I've been making posters, but I have another print that I've been told should be on a shirt. I might do that.

I wonder... am I the only person who thinks that if J.D. hadn't been killed in a car crash, he'd eventually have died of lung cancer or emphysema? He seems to have smoked like a chimney, if photographs are any guide...

For some reason, the "unfinished wooden stool" at #18 made me really sad.
