Thank you for that fascinating article. My dad was a funeral director and I could relate to a lot of the information.

I spent so long at Hollywood Forever looking for Judy Garland’s grave without luck then after I was back home in Australia I realised there was two mausoleums and I was looking in the wrong one

There are several large mausoleums at Hollywood Forever. My wife and I visited from Australia in 2019 and spent probably five hours walking around the grounds. The Judy Garland Pavilion was one of the last we came to and certainly very striking.
We obtained a guide map from the cemetery office and the lady there was very helpful. Finding specific graves around the cemetery was often quite difficult even when they were marked on the map. I had to search deep under the side of a shrub to find the grave of director John Huston; same for Janet Gaynor who lies beside costumier Adrian. We nearly gave up trying to find the columbarium for composer Nelson Riddle but found it in a tiny niche on the outside of the Jewish Pavilion. The niche is so narrow I could barely stand back enough to photograph Riddle’s plaque.
