In my home town of Detroit, there is an abstract artist named Tyree Guyton that started taking junk, and putting it up on old abandoned crack houses. Most of the houses are gone now, but here is one of the first. Nicknamed The Doll House, it was dedicated to all children that were abused. Creepy as hell, if you ask me. But still, fascinating.
I was born and raised in Detroit, yes the city itself. Lived there for almost 27 years, left due to the crime. This house is pretty awesome, but sadly I have never gotten the chance to visit it. These days when I dare visit the city, I go when it is super cold out as to not get robbed. 🙂
I love this house. I’m in the midst of selling mine, which has been tarted up for sale. Wouldn’t it be great to put this on a real estate board, just for fun? Well, er, no. But a nice thought. It would creep out some of more annoyingly conservative neighbours. Thanks Scott for a wonderful story
Yes! As a former (suburban) Detroiter, I can attest this house (if indeed it still stands) and the entire mess known as the Heidelberg Project is about the creepiest, most disturbing thing in the world. Some people love it and call it art, but to me it was just a hot mess!
Someone burned down a few of the HP buildings a few years ago, I don’t know if the doll house got lit — but I guess here’s hoping 😉
