In Detroit, on the old State Fair Grounds, there is what was once known as the worlds largest stove. When I was a kid, this used to be at the foot of the bridge to Belle Isle, one of my favorite places in the world. The plaque states that it was moved from that location in 1965, but I think it was there for longer. My mom used to point out the fact that her father, Stanley Nowicki (Dziadzi to me (it’s a Polish thing)) painted this thing once. I always felt a bit of pride, knowing that. I still am, and I’m glad they raised the money to have it moved, and properly restored.
